Welcome to Live Life Better Derbyshire’s Healthy Pregnancy service.

We are here to help you take care of your wellbeing during your pregnancy.

You are eligible for this service if you are:

  • pregnant
  • a Derbyshire resident or registered with a Derbyshire GP
  • and had a BMI of 30 or above, or 27.5 and above if you are of black or Asian ethnicity at the start of your pregnancy (27.5 or above if you are of black or Asian ethnicity

We understand that making lifestyle changes whilst you are pregnant is difficult; it can be tricky knowing if you are doing the right thing for both you and your baby. That is why we are here to support you during your pregnancy and beyond.

We focus on supporting you to eat healthy and/or be active during your pregnancy. This is important as it:

  • supports your baby’s growth and development
  • improves your energy and mood
  • reduces the risk of pregnancy complication
  • helps manage weight gain

How we will support you

Our specialist advisors will provide you with personalised advice to improve your overall wellbeing through food, movement, learning, and social opportunities.

Our team have worked with NHS Midwives, Health Visitors, and Breastfeeding Specialist teams to bring you the most up to date information to enable you to concentrate on making the best choices for you and your baby’s needs.

You will have access to:

  • specialist one to one support to help you eat healthily and be active during your pregnancy
  • regular calls to see how you are doing, provide you with reassurance and answer any questions you have
  • signposting to services and groups in your local area that can help you during your pregnancy
  • group sessions to receive support with your diet and wellbeing and the opportunity to speak with like-minded people
  • online and face-to-face exercise classes with trained instructors to build movement into your everyday life

What will happen on your first call? 

Your advisor will ask you some questions about yourself, and then talk about what you would like support with or what you would like to find out.

Your advisor will guide you through the options of support we can provide you with, or direct you to organisations, groups, or health professionals in your local area who are better placed to help you.

How long will we support you?

We will support you from the time your refer into our serivice through to you giving birth.

We will also support you for up to 12-weeks postpartum.
