One Dronfield resident has seen positive impacts from joining the free Exercise by Referral scheme.
Gilli Gore, aged 58 from Dronfield took part in Exercise by Referral after chatting to a member of our Live Life Better Derbyshire team last year.
The scheme is a comprehensive, free 12-week programme of exercise supported by qualified staff and carried out at local leisure centres.
Gilli approached her GP for a referral due to her Type 1 Diabetes and was able to access some low-level Impact classes.
“Finding out about Exercise by Referral and being able to access the different classes available at the leisure centre had a positive impact on my mood and being able to manage my Diabetes.
“I chose the Low Impact sessions because they were fun, available four times a week and set at my level but also enabled me to work at improvements.
“It’s an activity I will be able to pursue for many years, a very friendly group and sometimes involves a cuppa afterwards!”
The Exercise by Referral service aims to increase exercise and activity for people wanting to improve their health.
It is particularly aimed at people with eligible, pre-existing medical conditions who currently do little or no physical activity but are motivated to do more.
In order to take part in the scheme people must be referred by a GP or other qualified health professional.
Gilli added:
“Since accessing my free 12-week sessions I was able to continue at the leisure centre when offered a reduced rate.
“I am very happy with the service offered by Live Life Better Derbyshire and would highly recommend it to others.”
