Visitors to Chesterfield on March 13th have the chance to get up close and personal with a gigantic pair of inflatable lungs aimed at encouraging them to think about quitting smoking.
March 13th is National No Smoking day and we will be hosting a series of stop smoking drop in events across the county.
As part of awareness raising around the dangers of smoking, and the support on offer, a pair of Mega Lungs will be taking pride of place in Chesterfield.
The 12 foot high blow up lungs give visitors a hands on experience of the respiratory system’s most critical organs.
Visitors can step inside the human lung, learn about how they work and see examples of lung trauma and disease.
Our Cabinet Member for Health and Communities Councillor Carol Hart said: “The giant lungs make a good talking point and are fun to explore but they also offer a serious message.
“Smoking is still one of the biggest causes of premature death in England but there’s lots of support on offer for Derbyshire residents who want to quit.
“Live Life Better offers free advice and support, including free NRT and access to prescription medications.
“We’d encourage anyone who wants to stop smoking to give our friendly team a call.”
The lungs will be in place from 9.30am to 3pm on Wednesday 13th March in Chesterfield’s Pavements shopping centre.
