Getting active is one of the best ways that you can improve your overall health and wellbeing.

Whatever your starting point or current activity levels, Live Life Better Derbyshire has plenty of ideas and advice to help you get started.

Live Life Better Derbyshire offers free physical activity advice and support to people aged 18 and above who are on our weight management programme as well as for people who are inactive.

We offer face-to-face classes across the county and you can find out more about these on our classes page.

Online classes for people who want to be more active

These online classes are specially designed for people who have completed the health and wellbeing MOT and are inactive, and those who take part in our weight management programme.

Classes are free, run for 12 weeks and last 45 minutes.

They take place on Microsoft Teams and are led by our highly experienced and qualified staff.

They're suitable for all abilities and include options for you to exercise in a chair, standing using a chair or standing.

  • 5.30pm to 6.15pm
  • 6.45pm to 7.30pm

Tuesday

  • 10.15am to 11am
  • 2.30pm to 3.15pm
  • 6.45pm to 7.30pm

Wednesday

  • 10am to 10.45am
  • 5pm to 5.45pm (Chair based only)
  • 6.15pm to 7pm
  • 6.45pm to 7.30pm

Thursday

  • 3.30pm to 3.45pm (Chair based only)
  • 5.30pm to 6.15pm

Saturday

  • 9am to 9.45am
  • 10am to 10.45am

Classes for inactive people

If you are aged 18 and above and inactive (i.e. doing less than 30 minutes per week) you will be eligible to get help and support from one of our experienced physical activity advisors.

To get started complete our health and wellbeing MOT.

We will then put you in touch with one of our advisors who will discuss some options for you to get active.

Options include:

  1. Live instructor led exercise classes.
  2. Paper based resources - if you don’t have access to a computer, tablet or phone we can send you some exercise programmes that you can complete at home.
  3. Apps - we can discuss some easy to use apps to help you get active including walking, getting started with jogging or using an exercise plan.
  4. Online videos - we have reviewed a range of online videos from trusted providers for people of all abilities. We can discuss these with you, agree something that is suitable and help you get started.
  5. Access to local leisure services.
  6. Visit Walk Derbyshire for information about local walking opportunities.
  7. Strictly no Falling groups - these aim to increase balance and mobility and are run by Age UK Derby and Derbyshire.
  8. Jog Derbyshire. Jog Derbyshire is a network of friendly, social jogging groups across Derbyshire. Find out more about Jog Derbyshire.
  9. Exercise by referral is a comprehensive, 12-week programme of exercise supported by qualified staff that's carried out at local leisure centres. You can find out more about exercise by referral.
